Jatiluwih Day Tour

In the heart of Bali lies Jatiluwih, a village nestled in the highlands that seems untouched by time—a glimpse into Bali before the influx of tourism. This area is significant to Balinese culture, primarily due to its long-standing agricultural heritage, which has been central to Bali’s economy for centuries.

In 2012, Jatiluwih was designated a UNESCO Cultural Landscape, highlighting its importance as a preserved cultural area. The natural beauty of Jatiluwih and its surrounding villages is truly unique and worth experiencing.

If you’re a nature enthusiast visiting Bali and wish to explore Jatiluwih’s lush environment and cultural heritage, this tour is ideal for you. I’ve designed this itinerary to help you maximize your day in Jatiluwih while immersing yourself in Bali’s rich culture.

Feel free to customize your destinations during your Jatiluwih Day Tour. If you want to spend more time at certain places or skip an attraction for another, our drivers are flexible. It’s your day, so make it your own!

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

The Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are the pride of Jatiluwih. The view from the hilltops is breathtaking and a must-see on your itinerary. Photos cannot capture its full beauty—you need to see it in person.

The rice terraces feature a traditional Balinese irrigation system known as Subak, a centuries-old water management system ensuring fair water distribution among farmers. This system is deeply rooted in Balinese culture and spirituality.

There is an entry fee of 50,000 IDR ($5.00 AUD) per person, which covers access to Jatiluwih’s public areas and trekking the rice fields. The Jatiluwih Rice Terraces span over 600 hectares, making them the largest in Bali, even larger than the Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud. Pro tip: ask your driver to take you to the Jatiluwih Lookout.

Hidden Garden Coffee & Tea Plantation

To fully experience Bali and Indonesia’s culture, a visit to a coffee and tea plantation is essential. Coffee has played a vital role in Bali’s economy and daily life since Dutch colonial times. This stop takes you to Hidden Garden Agriculture, a coffee and tea plantation.

This small café specializes in various Indonesian coffees and teas, with Kopi Luwak (Luwak Coffee) as its main attraction. You can try a cup of this rare and expensive coffee for just 50,000 IDR ($5.00 AUD).

At Hidden Garden Agriculture, you can enjoy a collection of 15 coffee and tea tasters and buy a full cup of your favorite. They also offer a Balinese Rice Cake for 30,000 IDR ($3.00 AUD). The café features a patio with beautiful nature views, and there’s a small shop where you can purchase coffee, tea, and chocolate.

Hidden Garden Coffee could be your first tour stop. They also have a Bali Swing and scenic photo spots.

Yeh Hoo Waterfall

No Bali day tour is complete without a waterfall visit, and Yeh Hoo is perfect for your Jatiluwih Day Tour. Known locally as Air Terjun Yeh Hoo, this hidden gem features cascading water surrounded by lush greenery.

To enter the waterfall area, a small donation of 10,000 IDR ($1.00 AUD) is required, which helps maintain the premises. The walk from the parking area to the waterfall is short, around 3-4 minutes. The pathway is well-kept but can be moist, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Bring an extra set of clothes if you want to take a dip in the water.

Taman Ayun Temple

A Bali cultural day tour isn’t complete without visiting a temple. This stop takes you to Pura Taman Ayun, the Royal Temple of Mengwi, established in the 16th century by the Mengwi Empire.

Surrounded by a large moat, Taman Ayun offers four courtyards, shrines, and pavilions, showcasing brilliant Balinese architecture. The temple, also known as “Beautiful Garden,” is the largest water temple in Bali and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was featured in the BBC series Around the World in 80 Gardens.

Junglegold Chocolate Factory

You may have seen Junglegold chocolate in Bali stores or at the airport. This tour stop takes you to the Junglegold Chocolate Factory, where you can see how chocolate is made and try some samples.

Formerly known as Pod Chocolate, Junglegold has been in Bali for over a decade, producing delicious non-dairy and dark chocolates with unique blends like coconut, peppermint, 100% cacao, and caramel crunch.

Entrance to the factory is free and includes a tour and tasting samples. The tour is brief but informative, and you can try 10-12 different chocolates. You can also make your own chocolate for 100,000 IDR ($10.00 AUD) or buy chocolate and coffee on-site.

Optional: Bali Butterfly Park

Located in Wanasari, Tabanan Regency, the Bali Butterfly Park aims to conserve native butterfly species. It offers a chance to explore a tropical garden home to over 900 butterfly species and the Bali Peacock.

This stop is optional, as some may be uncomfortable around insects. Inform your driver if you wish to visit the Butterfly Park.

Is the Jatiluwih Day Tour suitable for kids?

Absolutely! Kids will love exploring this side of Bali, experiencing its culture, and enjoying its nature. They’ll be curious about the Luwaks at the coffee plantation and will likely enjoy the Junglegold Chocolate Factory the most.

Child seats are available upon request.

Can I stop for lunch in Jatiluwih?

Yes! While options are limited, there are several places to eat while enjoying the view of the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. Bhuana Agung Restaurant and Jatiluwih Resto are good choices with beautiful views.
